There are a
number of reasons why people fail to achieve their goal of loosing weight
through dieting. Many diets consists of
a foods that are either unappetising or the caloric intake is too
restrictive. It is not hard to see why
many people fail. However, one very common reason why a diet plan is
abandoned is that the dieter simply cannot resist the cravings for food that
they enjoy the most.
After you
have eaten a meal, your body converts your food into glucose so that it can be
used to nourish you. Higher levels of glucose in the blood are what help
you to feel full after you have eaten. However, as your body uses the
glucose, the levels drop and you will begin to feel like you want a snack. This is normally a weak point for someone
reaching for the biscuit tin or that trust old favorite snack!
Another
reason why people will find themselves having cravings when dieting is that
they have become accustomed to eating frequently and eating certain types of
foods. The cravings are therefore based
more on behavior than on metabolism. It will take time for your body to
adjust to the new, lower caloric amounts, and until it does, you will feel
hungry nearly all the time.
Limiting
the foods that you enjoy, and restricting yourself too much will inevitably
mean that you will fail your diet. Not
allowing yourself that odd treat without guilt will mean that you are
constantly craving for the forbidden treat.
It therefore constantly plays on your mind until you eventually give in/
Loosing
weight is not an all or nothing game. For example, many people when they are
dieting will find that if they have already eaten something unhealthy, they
will continue to do so for the reason of the day. You may have said this yourself before, “oh
I’ve messed up already today, I will start again tomorrow” or “I’ll start
eating healthy again on Monday since I’ve already eaten so badly this weekend”.
Every person at times eats
too much or gives into that craving. The successful people will not let a road
bump completely derail them from the task at hand and will simply put it down
to a treat and move on. The unsuccessful
people fall into a trap of constantly either under eating and over eating and
thinking that they will still lose weight if they are good the majority of the
time. The people is, its easier to put
on weight (especially without realising) than it is to loose it!
